The Old Farmstead: A Poem

Old house on the prairie
knee deep in tumbleweeds
an old windmill stands as sentinel nearby
forgotten by both the wind and time
an old barn whose only livestock now is rodents and insects
an old chicken coop
where the chickens have long ago flown the coop
abandoned farm machinery on the field
rusty and worn from years of neglect
The only harvest here is dust blown up by sudden windstorms.
