When Old and Dear Friends Die: A Poem

December 27, 2016 at 6:16 pm (Commentary, Obituaries, Personal essays, Poetry) (, , )

When Old and Dear Friends Die: A Poem

When old and dear friends die,
it is a feeling hard to describe
Gray seems so much grayer
And light seems so much darker

Hearing of your passing this afternoon my dear friend
has quite literally knocked the wind out of me
And what makes it harder is we never met in person
We blogged at the same blogging site
meeting back there in 2007
We talked on-line
And we chatted over the phone
But we never met in person

You were a social networking rock of stability for me after my dad died back in 2010
phoning me, emailing me and asking me how I was doing.

I never realized how much my writing had impacted you
until you asked me to be godfather to your daughter Nyssa when she was born back in 2011
You obviously picked up and sensed from my writing that I was a fellow human being to be trusted
in asking me to be your daughter’s godfather

And now poor little Nyssa will be turning 6 this coming January 1st
And starting the New Year without her beloved Daddy 😦

I never got to India to see you, my friend
You were going to show me around your beloved country
Now if I ever visit your dear land, my contact with you will be to lay a rose at your grave or urn

But I will always be there for your daughter Nyssa
I remember you said that to me once on the phone, “Christopher, promise me that you’ll always be there for my daughter Nyssa.”
And I did.
And so I shall.

Au revoir, my dear friend.
Until we meet for the first time in person in God’s paradise.

The Howling of The Frost Giants: A Poem

December 23, 2016 at 4:14 pm (Folklore, Horror, Mythology, Poetry, The Supernatural) (, , , , , , , , )

The Howling of The Frost Giants: A Poem

Outside the house the frost giants howl
preparing for the Norse Ragnarok
December 2016- a descent into darkness
A land of winter but no Christmas
as C.S. Lewis foresaw
A Narnia ruled by a Queen of Snow and Ice

Outside the house the frost giants howl
to the materialist just great gusts of wind and snow
to the magician wicked spirits of ice and snow
risen from the depths of Niflheim
Loki calls to Thor in adversarial jest
Fenrir howls at Odin
Great serpents rise in this land of the damned
A Hell minus centigrade and minus Fahrenheit
where snow and ice devour instead of flames

Trolls and ogres have left their underground caves
and openly walk the streets of the city
great blemishes of ugliness and decay
Oh for the laser machete of Pan Goatee to slaughter such ugly beasts

Outside the house the frost giants howl
Christmas without Christ is here
but instead of a Transhumanist technological utopia
Old beasts and old gods have returned
Old devils laugh in glee
mocking lights on a Christmas tree.

Man and Superman- thy godhood has arrived
but lesser than the trees and the stars
More powerful ancient spirits are also here
This is the season Prophets and Mystics did fear
It has come to pass
in the form of Wintery blast
The Frost Giants are here!
They laugh and they jeer!
An Ice Age Reign of Terror!
Talk of a Promised Land- all in error!
As gods fall from a celestial hall, wolf and serpent scowl,
Outside the house the frost giants howl.

Adolf Hitler: The Opera: Interlude Between Act I scene i and Act I scene ii

December 22, 2016 at 6:39 pm (History, Music, Musicals, Vampire novel) (, , , , , )

Adolf Hitler: The Opera: Interlude Between Act I scene i and Act I scene ii

Renfield R. Renfield has decided to put in an interlude between Act I scene i and Act I scene ii for the opera on Adolf Hitler he was commissioned to write.

In this interlude, an actor who looks a lot like the late Ugandan dictator Idi Amin but who has a singing voice that sounds much like singer Harry Belafonte stands on stage between acts and sings the following song:

Hey, has anybody here seen my old friend Adolf?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He killed a lot of people but the evil they die middle aged
I just looked around and he’s gone.

Hey, has anybody here seen my old friend Josef?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He killed a lot of people but the evil they die somewhat old
I just looked around and he’s gone

Hey, has anybody here seen my old friend Mao?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He killed a lot of people but the evil they die elderly
(particularly if they’re Asian- must be that rice diet)
I just looked around and he’s gone

Hey, has anybody here seen my old friend Kim?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
You’re probably asking me which one?
But to me, North Korean despots all look the same
I just look around and they all look the same

* * *

At this point, Amadeus Emanon stopped reading Renfield’s script.

Said Amadeus while munching on a chocolate eclair, “I’m amazed at the way you were able to work politically incorrect ethnic stereotypes into a song that was already politically incorrect in its praise of despotic dictators.”

“I know,” Renfield grinned, “I just can’t help being a genius.”

Hillary, Russia and Our Lady of Fatima

December 21, 2016 at 4:20 pm (Geopolitics and International Relations, News, The Supernatural, Vampire novel) (, , , , , , , )

Michelangelo the Psychic Lobster was getting another transmission from the future on his lobster antennae.

Renfield R. Renfield watched the transmission appear on his computer screen.

In the transmission, Hillary Clinton was giving a speech and she was quoting the message of Fatima.

Said Hillary, “The Virgin Mary told the three shepherd children at Fatima that Russia would spread its errors throughout the world. And of course the biggest of Russia’s errors spreading throughout the world was me not becoming President of the United States.”

“Good God,” the atheistic Renfield gasped, “Now I’ve seen and heard everything.”

Sherrielock Holmes Reflects On The Vampiress Showdown At Sundown

Sherrielock Holmes Reflects On The Vampiress Showdown At Sundown

Things quieted down in Hayden, Colorado after the Aztec gold was dug up and stolen by a group of marauding Mormons who took it to Utah with them.

This later gave American forensic geologist Scott Wolter something to do for his early 21st Century TV show America Unearthed.

Since there was no longer any reason to stay in Hayden, Isis flew back to Paris by way of New York and Qonzilqointec returned to Mexico City by way of San Francisco.

“At last, peace and quiet,” Sherrielock sighed to herself as she lay in bed.

She might finally be able to get to sleep at night.
