Laurence Olivier’s Hamlet Reflects On His Grandmother’s Death

December 23, 2018 at 11:57 pm (Music, music videos, Video) (, , , , )

This is a one and a half minute music video I made 9 years ago.

For the video, I downloaded a clip from the 1948 film Hamlet starring Laurence Olivier.

I then edited it slightly so that Laurence Olivier’s actions holding the skull in the graveyard fit the lyrics of the song.

Hope you enjoy it. ☺

    Alas, poor Grandmother
    … I didn’t know her at all.

And Horatio, who was a witness to the accident, told Lt. Columbohagen the raincoat wearing detective who was investigating the matter for signs of a potential homicide on the reindeer’s part, “I just saw a reindeer pulling a sleigh run over Hamlet’s grandmother” to which Lt. Columbohagen replied, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Interestingly enough Santa and his elves never completed building any of their toys for the Christmas Eve a year after the death of Hamlet’s grandmother because every day for the next year, Lt. Columbohagen kept showing up at Santa’s North Pole elf workshop saying the same thing, “Oh, just one more thing, sir, just one more thing.”

Did Lt. Columbian cop an Ophelia.

      • Dracul Van Helsing said,

He wanted to get his hands on Ophelia’s sticky buns as he always fancied Danish cinnamon buns.

That’s why Ophelia jumped into the stream to wash herself of Columbohagen’s grimy hands.

… Always holding a cheap cigar.

      • Dracul Van Helsing said,

Like Hamlet’s father’s ghost, he will definitely be confined to fast in fires until the foul crimes done in his days of nature are burnt and purged away.

It was definitely the smoking cigar that brought down fair Denmark.

At least that crumpled detective would’ve
solved the old ‘poison in the ear whilst the
victim is asleep’ trick. And arrested Hamlet’s
murdering uncle, before the second act.

      • Dracul Van Helsing said,

Yes, he would definitely have done that all right. 😃

      • David Redpath said,

        With Ophelia of course,
        not Hamlet’s Grandmother.

      • David Redpath said,

I do hope Lt. Columbohagen arrests
        Rosencrantz and Guildenstern for being
        a couple of Danish tarts.

      • Dracul Van Helsing said,

I hear Columbohagen is planning to do that.

Columbohagen did determine that it was curtains for Polonius.

When Hamlet drew out his sword in his mother’s presence in a manner that would have made even Oedipus wince.

Hamlet was venetian blind with rage.

    • Dracul Van Helsing said,

Never again did Hamlet purchase an overpriced set of blinds from the merchant of Venice.

And of course if the lock on Gertrude’s bedchambers door had been more shy and less open and accommodating, none of this would have happened.

And Shakespeare and Laurence Olivier would have been deprived of their greatest triumphs.

      • David Redpath said,

        One shouldn’t Shylock on
        Shakespearean adulation.
For all the world is a stage,
        with unemployed thespians
        pounding the flesh, upon
        life’s pavement.
