To Bring Darkness To An End: When?

September 23, 2021 at 10:50 pm (Poetry) ()

At one time darkness ruled the world
Most of the world paid homage to a single man
Armed soldiers were everywhere
Freedom was just a word
Oppression was the order of the day
The corrupt priesthood were in bed
with the state
Following their orders and directives
They had no king but “Caesar”
And God and worship
Must bend to Caesar’s will

Where and when would this evil end?
When would oppression end?
When would a person be able to call something
Truly theirs
And not have it be taken away by the state?
When, oh when?

Amidst the tumult and clamour of armed soldiers
in the streets
The cries of the oppressed
It was difficult to hear
That still small voice of God.

And on the outer edge of that darkness
A voice greeted a young maiden

“Hail Mary full of grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb…
