The Empress of Atlantis

The Empress of Atlantis

The Empress of Atlantis was a tyrant
A megalomaniac
A narcissist par excellence

Standing alongside the giant marble head of herself
She stood regal like a goddess
Which she believed herself to be

Since she fancied herself full of divinity
She never showed an ounce of humanity
Death was her decree
To any who fell into her disfavour

She fancied herself Mistress of the Cosmos
And thus it was of the greatest surprise to her
When the Cosmos rose against her
When mighty tsunami waves submerged her empire
And her body
That she held to be the earthly vessel of a goddess
Became food for fishes
And the colossal marble head
Of her oh so proud! face and profile
Was covered by seaweed

Mermaids swam by and wondered what monster this had been
Now confined to the depths of the sea
Ghosts of pirates passed her by
On the way down to Davy Jones’ locker
A preview of the horrors that awaited them

And so as Ozymandias lies forgotten in desert sands
So likewise does Atlantis’ Empress inhabit the bottom of the sea.

Why Atlantis Sank: A Poem

Why Atlantis Sank: A Poem

An ET in the shape of a praying mantis
landed on the island of Atlantis
and taught the people there
wireless signals in the air
which led them to neglect change of underwear
The land was so overwhelmed by the stink
that the climate started to shrink
and the mountain glaciers melted
and the ground under hail was pelted
and the island finally sank under tsunami at sea
while Atlantean politicians awaited further study.
