“Luna and Poseidon kiss” – what a lovely image!

My grandfather reported witnessing this love affair for approximately 1000 evenings aboard a destroyer escort cruising in the Pacific during WWII. The ship was only 35 feet across the beam and 120 feet long. There was no air conditioning so he slept on the deck. He said he watched Luna rise and fall to the sea.

      Wow.

That must have been a beautiful sight to see. 🙂

It no doubt offered him some comfort and solace in the midst of the hell of war.

He confessed it was the greatest moments of his life during that time. His ship was responsible for several significant historical events that changed the outcome of the war and history. His favorite color is the light green of the south pacific. It had a profound affect on him.

The light green of the South Pacific. 🙂

I suppose that’s why I’ve always been drawn to the South Pacific.

Every time I see a movie about the South Pacific, I’ve always wanted to go live there.

I’ve always wanted to live in Tahiti or Polynesia or Bali.

When you mentioned light green, it hit me, “Eureka! That’s it! It’s that particularly beautiful colours of the waters that draws me.”

Well that and the looks of the enchantingly beautiful women who seem to inhabit those islands.

That’s one of the reasons why I left Edmonton a couple of years after my dad died and moved to Vancouver- it’s one step closer to the South Pacific.

So at night when I’m gazing out on Vancouver’s English Bay, I gaze out in a southwesterly direction and say, “Some day, some day…”

Absolutely! My grandfather was allowed to go ashore on some of the lesser islands for a “shore leave” where each enlisted man was issued one hot beer, two slices of white bread, and a slice of bologna. He could then sit on a fallen palm tree and drink his hot beer and eat his sandwich or he could trade with the natives. From his recollections, no Puritans had ever set foot there or they were all eaten quickly after landing and insisting the women cover up. Apparently, the women could chose a sailor of their choice for merry making and no one objected, least of all the chosen sailor. He told me a lot of bread and bologna was left discarded on the beach. He thinks the beer was used up rather quickly.

      LOL !

Yes it’s amazing how much the teachings of the Puritans resemble the teachings of extremists within Islam like the Taliban or the theocratic despotic mullahs who govern Iran or even the West’s supposed Middle East ally the Wahhabist puritanical absolute monarchical dictatorship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia- who all insist that women cover up in this earthly realm while they hunger and lust for the dark-eyed houri promised them in Paradise in the Koran.

A Paradise already available to sensible men- folk in this realm who happen to land on South Pacific islands.

I’ve often wondered whether a lot of these suicide bombers and Islamist terrorists aren’t in fact total losers who aren’t getting any in this life time.

So they gladly kill innocents and blow themselves up at the same time in the hopes that they’ll finally be getting some nookie.

Altough in doing that, they’re turning themselves into absolute cosmic losers- which is the only thing you can say about people who blow themselves up in the hope that they’ll finally be getting some nookie.

Having spent a lot of time in that culture, I discovered an underground coping mechanism for the men and women. It’s like compressing water in a multi-jointed pipe. The more pressure you apply the more leaks you find. Those that would resort to mass murder to escape their own misery, thinking their deed is heavenly rewarded are not around long enough to realize their recruiters would never try something so stupid.

      Exactly.

To read all of the comments like reading a long romantic novels with puns! LOL
You guys are great. With island inhabited with pretty women, some beers and bologna … And love the “light green of south pacific” … That can be a beautiful line for a love poem, yes … 🙂

    • draculvanhelsing said,

Ah yes, the light green of the South Pacific.

And on Saint Patrick’s Day they can drink light green beer and toast their bologna over a fire while they read romantic poems to lovely island women.

The light green waters reflecting the moon (made out of green cheese according to old tales) have given them the green light to do so. 🙂

      • Sherrie de Valeria said,

Green cheese? Ewwww … no wonder they are all seeing green things! Everywhere! LOL Are you sure that the beer is still due? I mean it is green, right? hahaha …

Everything must be infected by the green fungus from the island. Women’s fault! It was! It must be! LOL

      • Sherrie de Valeria said,

Oh, speaking on green beers and green cheese … Now I understand the TRUTH behind all those pirate ships that got sinked underneath the sea after they came to hear the sirens singing the songs … It was those green rum! And the green mermaids! lol

      • draculvanhelsing said,

Yes, I hear the island’s green fungus has the same effect when you eat it as it does when you eat magic mushrooms.

You start seeing WANTED Unicorn posters on non-existent post office walls up and down the beach.

      • draculvanhelsing said,

Yes that green rum and those green mermaids will get you every time!

        LOL !

As Captain Jack Sparrow discovered when his Black Pearl turned green underneath the waves as the Sirens sang that old Irish song, 40 Shades of Green.
